Here comes the portfolio Kanban board and it is an amazing productivity tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If you are not familiar with the portfolio Kanban board, it is a Kanban board that lists tasks from all your projects on one board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">If you are familiar with Portfolio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binfire.com\/gantt-chart-software\/\">Gantt Chart<\/a>, you do understand the benefits of viewing, tracking, and managing all your projects from one page.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">To make the tracking tasks from multiple projects orderly and easier to view and manage, the portfolio Kanban board uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binfire.com\/blog\/swimlanes-make-project-plan\/\">swimlanes<\/a> to make sense of all the chaos.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In regular Kanban boards, you create multiple lists and place tasks or cards in those lists. As your team makes progress, each task or card is moved from one list to the next until they reach the completion\/done list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In the Portfolio Kanban board, you also create lists. Each list is visible to all your projects. You can add tasks from any project to any list on the Kanban board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In Binfire the list is also called custom-status. The user selects which tasks appear on the board by using the custom-status field in the task detail section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">As an example, let&#8217;s assume you manage 2 projects. There are 4 teams working on these two projects. A development team, test team, marketing team, and sales team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The development and test teams want to track tasks that are related to the design and production of the product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The Marketing team wants to track deliverables, milestones, and their own marketing tasks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The sales team wants to track sales tasks and when the product will be ready to show to the customer (beta) and when it could be shipped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">By using the right custom-status fields and adding those as lists to the boards each team can mark which tasks will appear on the portfolio kanban board they manage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The product and project manager and team leaders could have a kanban board for tracking every task in all projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">The marketing and sales teams have their own Kanban boards to track tasks that are important to them across all projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In addition to projects, the user can track tasks assigned to teams. This is a great way of tracking all tasks assigned to a team across all projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In Binfire&#8217;s implementation of the portfolio Kanban board, both projects and teams could be tracked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">In Binfire, each project could also have its own Kanban boards. I said boards and not board. The ability to create multiple boards per project is a feature not found in applications like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trello.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trello<\/a> or any others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">By making it possible for each project to have multiple Kanban boards, the team can design multiple points of view for planning and tracking a project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Regardless of which Agile project management method you use, you can use Portfolio Kanban for better tracking and managing your projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt;\">Portfolio Kanban is also a great tool if you use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binfire.com\/blog\/hybrid-project-management-methodology\/\">Hybrid project management<\/a> method.
