That spot really tries its best to pretend it’s harmless, even though it’s basically the workplace equivalent of a ticking timer in an action movie. Okay, now that part might be a little too much, but it’s still not all that safe. But think about it; most people don’t notice how stressful that area actually is until one loud slam has everyone jumping out of their skin. A great example is just the garage door, like maybe the one at your workplace, slams shut, it jerks, it groans, it doesn’t sound like a big deal, but that can seriously crush someone.
Old Doors are Just Way too Unsafe
Yeah, it’s really as simple as this. So, maybe there’s always that one door that refuses to open all the way. It hangs halfway down like it just gave up on life, and people start doing that awkward little crouch walk under it. Does it sound familiar at all? Well, yeah, you know the one. The “I’m pretty sure this is dangerous, but I’m in a rush, so I’m just going to go for it” move. If you haven’t experienced that, hopefully you never will, because for a lot of businesses, this is super common.
But yeah, when the tracks are sticky, or the springs are worn out, or the motor just glitches for fun, you’re basically dealing with a giant metal hazard that has zero interest in the safety of anyone walking underneath it. And the whole thing is wild, because nobody ever thinks about how often that door opens and closes each day. At some point, it’s going to give out. That’s just how it works.
It’s kind of shocking how overlooked it all is, considering this thing is big enough to cause real harm, plus stress, plus that stomach-drop moment when it slams shut out of nowhere.
Employees Shouldn’t Feel Like They’re Dodging Falling Panels
Simple enough, right? But yeah, this is the part that gets brushed under the rug, but yeah, it needs to be said. People avoid walking under a broken door for a reason. Why should your employees risk their health and safety? They shouldn’t. And honestly, this stuff gets worse over time. One day, there’s a loud groan, the next day, it gets stuck halfway, and then people start using broom handles to poke at it just to make it close. Okay, maybe not all businesses, but this is common.
Once it reaches that point, it’s basically begging to be replaced. This is usually when someone finally brings up commercial door installation just to make the whole building feel safe again. Now, yeah, sure, it’s a bit of money, but it’s absolutely worth it (plus it’s cheaper than a lawsuit, too).
It’s Time for a Modern Door
Or multiple modern doors. So yeah, a loading area really doesn’t have to feel like a place where people mentally rehearse escape routes. That’s not fair to your staff anyway. It doesn’t matter what type of business you run; those loading areas absolutely need to be safe!
